Resurgo is partnering with The Mount Church to deliver the award-winning Spear Programme to young people in St Helens, Merseyside, from autumn 2025.
Resurgo currently delivers its expert coaching to unemployed young people through 17 local partners across the UK, and is delighted to be expanding Spear’s reach even further in the north of the UK.
There is a high level of need in St Helens: workless households are above the national rate, and 42% of the town (2 in 5 people) are economically inactive. An increasing aspirational poverty leaves many caught in benefits cycles, unable to see beyond their circumstances, which in turn impacts the mental health and self-confidence of young people in the area. The Mount are excited about the potential of Spear to engage with the younger generation, and empower them to change this narrative.
“We are super excited to be partnering with Resurgo to start Spear St Helens! We share Resurgo’s vision to see young people reach their full potential and believe this opportunity can bring about real change in our community where there is such aspirational poverty.”
Tim Coates, Lead Pastor at The Mount.
Spear St Helens will be delivering Resurgo’s streamlined version of Spear, designed to make the programme more accessible to a wider spectrum of partners, and in turn young people who may otherwise not be able to access the support they need.
Young people will receive four weeks of in-depth employment coaching, focusing on practical skills such as interview preparation and CV writing, as well as transformative coaching around mindset and attitude. This is followed by a further six months of personalised follow-on support.
