Pioneering employment support programme opens in Leeds

We’re delighted to announce that Resurgo’s brand new Spear Centre in Leeds opened its doors this morning. This first cohort of trainees are seeking support to overcome the barriers they face and get into work.

Spear Leeds is the first Spear Programme in the north of the UK, and follows the success of Spear Brighton, as well as eight Spear centres in London.

Leeds is an area of socio-economic contrast. It has a high proportion of areas which are ranked in the worst 3% nationally in terms of indicators of deprivation.

One such area is Burmantofts, where Spear Leeds is located. Burmantofts encompasses several areas designated to be ‘most deprived’ on the Index of Multiple Deprivation, meaning that the Spear centre will be easily accessible to local young people who need it most.

Megan Reilly, Centre Manager of Spear Leeds, said “It is so exciting to be opening Spear Leeds and breaking ground in the North. What a privilege to be able to empower young people in some of the most deprived areas of the UK, and to be expanding the reach of Resurgo. We hope that opening a Spear centre in Leeds paves the way for more expansion and we are excited for all that is to come”.

  • The Spear Programme is the flagship initiative of Resurgo Trust. Operating in 10 locations across the UK, Spear helps young people facing disadvantage into work or education, by equipping them with the confidence, motivation and vital skills necessary to succeed in long-term employment.
