On 30 September we’re taking on our Walk 20 Challenge – and inviting you to join us. You’ve got until the end of August to nab your place!
We’re walking 20 kilometres to mark 20 years of Resurgo, and to raise vital funds along the way to support more young people like Alex realise their full potential:
“Lockdown was a very rough time for me. I was very scared. I didn’t want to get out of bed. I had no motivation and I just didn’t want to do anything, didn’t want to wake up in the mornings. […] I felt like I was in a really big pit, I was at the bottom and I couldn’t get out of it. I started skipping school. I felt completely useless and hopeless.
My counsellor gave me a leaflet about Spear. When I went in to meet [my coach] Izzie, it was wonderful. I felt like I was being treated for who I am as an adult. I felt listened to and heard. I have learnt so many skills. I’ve learnt how to write a CV, cover letter, apply to apprenticeships and jobs. I’ve worked on my confidence and my anxiety. My time at Spear has been amazing.” – Alex, Spear Bristol.
Alex completed the Spear Programme this year in Bristol, and is now working as a Sales Assistant.
A shocking 35% of young people currently not in education, employment or training (NEET) report feeling similar to Alex, and think that they will fail in life. 65% of young people are scared for their future, and this generation’s overall happiness and confidence is at an all-time low*.
It’s clear that, though there’s so much to celebrate from our past two decades – there’s a long way to go too. Will you help us get there, and help to offer more young people like Alex the chance to realise their worth?
If a triathlon or skydive never took your fancy, perhaps our Walk 20 Challenge is more up your street. Think rest stops, snacks, fun vibes and sunshine (fingers crossed) as we take in the beautiful sights of London.
