The Spear Programme in Bethnal Green has now worked with 60 groups of young people facing barriers to employment with a total of 875 young people having now received expert coaching to help kick-start their careers.
Spear Bethnal Green was opened in 2014 to meet the needs of young people in the local area who were Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET). The programme coaches young people facing barriers to employment to give them the skills, mindset and confidence they need to get into employment or education. 75% of those who complete the programme not only get into work, but remain there a year later.
The programme, which is based at St Peter’s Bethnal Green, is one of 17 locations across the UK offering the award-winning programme. Bethnal Green is adjacent to the City of London, yet many who live locally face poverty and other barriers to getting into work.
Resurgo CEO, Iona Ledwidge, said, “Huge congratulations to the team at Spear Bethnal Green who have worked tirelessly to give young people who are far from the workplace the skills and self-belief to be able to thrive in work for the long-term. We are so proud of each of the 875 young people who have come on the Spear Programme in Bethnal Green. Thank you to all our volunteers, supporters, coaches, corporate partners, trustees and to the team at St Peter’s who have made the programme a success.”
