Skill Up Step Up

Resurgo is delighted to announce that we have been selected as one of ‘five outstanding handpicked charities’ to receive funding from Skill Up Step Up, a new £1m Evening Standard and Independent appeal, in partnership with Barclays and the London Community Foundation (LCF).

Resurgo will receive a grant to fund 60 unemployed young Londoners aged 16-24 through the Spear Programme, equipping them to overcome the serious barriers they face, and go on to attain a job or apprenticeship.

Our selection means that our work was featured in the Evening Standard and Independent. The coverage includes interviews with two of our trainees, Samir and Nicole, who shared their experiences of unemployment and how the Spear Programme supported them.

Jo Rice, CEO of Resurgo, said, “At a time of high youth unemployment, this campaign will help Resurgo reach even more young people, to not only upskill them and make them work ready, but to help them navigate life and make sustainable choices – of which gaining employment is one key measure”

Skill Up Step Up is an appeal from the Evening Standard and Independent, launched in response to the high jobless rate in young Londoners. Despite record job vacancies countrywide, 1 in 5 young Londoners seeking work find themselves jobless – a rate six times higher than the national all-ages rate. It’s this ‘gaping mismatch’ which Skill Up Step Up seeks to address. Find out more about the appeal here
