Resurgo launches its Transforming Young Futures Appeal

In light of the disproportionate impact of COVID19 on young people, Resurgo is launching its Transforming Young Futures appeal, which goes live on 23 June 2020.

This match funding appeal run by the Childhood Trust, in partnership with the Big Give, will ensure that every pound donated to Resurgo through the Big Give website will be doubled.

These funds will go towards delivering the Spear Programme, enabling us to support hundreds more young people facing disadvantage into sustainable employment.

Research shows that young people are likely to bear the brunt of the economic fallout of COVID19. They are more likely to work in a shutdown sector, to have been furloughed, or experienced cuts to pay and hours. They are now facing the prospect of entering the worst labour market in a century, many having missed out on their final term of schooling and career support. Research consistently shows that short-term negative employment and pay prospects has long-term scarring implications.

For lower-skilled young adults, the situation is heightened. Their chances of getting a job are reduced by a third, and school closures are likely to have increased existing educational inequalities.

The Spear Programme is committed to supporting young people through these challenges. Their team of coaches has been staying in touch with trainees remotely, and through a pilot Spear Digital offering.

With demand for the Spear Programme’s services only going to increase, Resurgo is launching its annual match-funding campaign to align with its response to COVID19, and in lieu of its usual Big Give Christmas Challenge.

As a match-funding campaign, any donation will be doubled, from a match-funding pot made up of generous pledges from individual supporters, and The Childhood Trust, who works to help vulnerable young people in London to overcome poverty and to achieve their full potential.

The Champions for Children Appeal aims to raise funds for charities working with young people whose lives have been impacted by the pandemic. It is run by The Childhood Trust and in partnership with the Big Give.
